Do You Know the Types of Wall Anchors?

A wall anchor is a simple hardware device used to secure light to medium-weight items to walls constructed of dry walls and other lightweight materials. Wall anchors enable people to hang framed pictures and similar objects at any point along the wall surface, even if there is no wall nail anchor used with screws at this location, to prevent screws from falling off dry walls and other hollow wall materials. While providing adequate support for shelves and other forms of wall decoration, people drill more than one wall anchor.

Type of wall anchors

The shape of the basic plastic anchor is a narrow cone with an opening at the wide end. A device with a small lip around the hole at the wide end to help hold the anchor in place. Installing it involves drilling a hole in the wall and gently tapping the anchor body into the hole. Once the wide end of the unit is flush with the wall, insert the screw into the hole and turn it clockwise until the screw head is close to the wall. This type of anchor is very suitable for hanging light objects on the wall.

Another different type of anchor is called a hollow wall anchor. The shape of this device is somewhat like a basic plastic model. But it may be made of light metal and plastic. It is sometimes called Morley bolt. The function of it is to slowly expand the main body of the equipment when the screw moves in place. This causes the expansion of the main body to seize the interior of the wall, which can be hung with medium-weight shelves or other wall decorations.
